  1. It’s not for Iran; it’s for Afghanistan. Iran has too few targets that would require that type of munition to destroy.

  2. I disagree. As the article says, “Analysts agree that MOP was designed to destroy Iranian and North Korean underground facilities, such as Iran’s Natanz uranium enrichment plant, Middle East Newsline reported. The bomb was said to be able to penetrate more than 65 meters of earth.”

    Afghanistan doesn’t have many of these sorts of targets of opportunity left. I’m uncertain how well bombs like this would work on the caves that Al Qaeda is often said to hide out in, but Iran seems the likelier target regardless.

    We’re seeing the same sort of ramping up that we saw before Iraq. Unless something changes, it’s probably only a matter of time.

  3. You may be right about the Natanz uranium enrichment plant but those Afghani caves are perfect for this type of munition.
