Bah, Humbug!

I love Christmas. Love it. All the commercialism simply feeds my festive mood. It’s one of the only times, like clockwork, that this cynical young fogey feels genuinely happy for no apparent reason. It’s like Advent is one big, long, prosac-infused season leading up to the big day.

I’m a little boy again at Christmas, and whether it’s giving gifts or receiving them, I just think it’s about as much fun as you can have on a given morning, and it’s better when you have kids. (Midnight Mass with said kids is not-so-fun. But I digress.)

For me, an added component of Holiday Joy is the week off I get at Christmas. On Friday, December 21st, I went home to my lovely family, and didn’t return to work until today. A full eleven blissful days of playing with my new computer (which actually manages to wrestle with the very high graphics settings on Crysis, if not with a perfect framerate), watching Veggie Tales with Soph, watching Season One of my new Farscape DVDs with Jamie and Kiana (sweet gift!), playing helicopter laser tag in the living room, destroying all challengers at my new favorite board game, Khet, and eating lots of prime rib leftovers from Christmas dinner.  I even bought a Christmas Pudding, imported from England by our local mega-grocer (it wasn’t worth it.)

So now that my money has all been spent, my time has all been wasted, and my fun has more or less dried up for the moment, it’s time to go back to the grind. Christmas comes and goes too fast for my tastes, I can tell you that.

    Oooo! Christmas pud.

We had Christmas pudding for dessert today at the Monastery for Epiphany.

Heh. I like being Catholic. Two Christmases, the big one and the little one at the end to send you on your way to Lent.
