Yeah. You know you’ve wondered. Here I’ve assailed you with an image of my large, unshapely noggin in the header image and to top it off, I’m wearing headphones. Ugly headphones. (For the record, they’re Koss PortaPros, and despite the eighties-era design they have excellent sound quality for a pair of folding portables.)
The reason I [...]

One of the commenters in the comment thread at Inside Catholic characterized my position as defeatist. I disagree. I believe it’s a realist position, one that suppresses the emotion we feel over the issue in favor of common sense.
One of the best things we can do from a practical standpoint to advance the cause of [...]

I have some other thoughts on the March for Life that didn’t make it into the Inside Catholic piece. I’d like to share some of them with you here. You understand my thoughts on the focus of the March being wrong, but I think it’s important to realize that this thought didn’t occur to me [...]

The halfway mark I was talking about last night has come and gone. Today marks the first time my work has been published in real, honest-to-goodness outlet. It’s perhaps fitting that this outlet is one of the first Catholic periodicals to become online only after finding its origins in traditional print.
It probably wouldn’t be accurate [...]

We got home from the hospital a little while ago, and Jamie is on bed rest, but recovering. Everything went well, and while we have to wait for the final pathology report the hope is that all the abnormal cells have been removed. We’re fortunate to be working with doctors from the Tepeyac Center, an [...]

Been having a back and forth e-mail conversation with an old friend of mine who edits a Catholic publication. We’ve been out of touch for a while, but he contacted me yesterday with some interest in my writing, and I cooked something up for him and sent it over tonight.
No guarantees yet, but it looks [...]

It’s her birthday today. She’s been turning 23 every year for several years now, just don’t ask me how that works. Of course, she’s Chinese and will age more gracefully than this large white man could ever hope to. She’ll still be stunning in her sixties while I’m tooling around in a nitrous-oxide assisted electric [...]

As the flu gradually lessens its grip on the house, we face another challenge tomorrow. We found out in the days following Christmas that my wife has a condition known as dysplasia, a disordered cell growth that ranges in her case from moderate to severe in advancement. This is a cervical cancer pre-cursor, and as [...]

Hilary White has a gift for writing with clarity that I lack. My thoughts are such a jumbled mass that they often seem to come out that way, lacking the clarity of insight I feel that I have in the abstract.
On the subject of Muslim reformists - those who wish for a better, kinder Islam, [...]

Let’s face it - China is still a far bigger threat to the United States than Islam and it’s rag-tag band of cavemen with machine guns and Semtex will ever be. The minute Taiwan decides it’s done with the oppressive rhetoric from Beijing - a minute that could come in their 2012 elections - we’re [...]
