I mentioned yesterday that I discovered I could still vote in the Virginia Primary last night when I got home from work, and that was exactly what I intended to do.
Of course, the ice storm I also mentioned was supposed to end before the evening rush. It didn’t. It took me over an hour-and-a-half to get home, and all the while the radio was chirping on about whether the Virginia election commission was going to extend polling times to deal with the fact that many voters were stranded in slow-moving traffic and hadn’t been able to cast their ballots.
In Virginia, the polls closed at 7:00PM, and I pulled into the parking lot of the school at 6:58. By the time I got inside, it was 6:59. I had literally made it with one minute to spare. The person who walked in behind me was turned away.
Ron Paul only got 4% in Virginia, but I’m happy, at least, that I got to be a part of that. It felt a lot better than either staying home or voting for McCain ever could have.
