I’m sure by now you’ve read about it. A California appeals court case has made homeschooling by non-certified parents illegal. The shockwaves are spreading.
A California appeals court ruling clamping down on homeschooling by parents without teaching credentials sent shock waves across the state this week, leaving an estimated 166,000 children as possible truants and their parents at risk of prosecution.
The homeschooling movement never saw the case coming.
“At first, there was a sense of, ‘No way,’ ” said homeschool parent Loren Mavromati, a resident of Redondo Beach (Los Angeles County) who is active with a homeschool association. “Then there was a little bit of fear. I think it has moved now into indignation.”
We’ve been discussing the case today at the Inside Catholic blog. Check it out for more.

I try very hard to remember St. Paul’s injunction to obey our rulers, and the example of the Fathers and other early Christians who obeyed Rome in everything except apostasy.
But I wonder what I would do here. By forcing me to send my kid to a public school, could I construe that as gravely endangering their sense of the Faith?
This would be a hard decision. I suspect I would keep my kids home and face the consequences.
Rob! Welcome back! I was wondering if I’d ever see you again.
Hey, man, you move around too much. Us Arizona folk we can’t keep up!
