The Dark Knight
Jamie found a giftcard the other day and we decided to go on a date to the movies last night. We saw The Dark Knight, and I went into it with already high expectations after listening to all the hype, so I was ready to be disappointed.
I wasn’t. My only real dissapointment is that with Heath Ledger gone, I don’t think anyone will be playing the joker again any time soon. It was a stark raving brilliant performance, just like everyone has been gushing on about, and I’ve got no attachment to the actor or the need to saint him after his death.
And I kept thinking as the film played on, “Who’d have ever thought when my siblings and I were watching Newsies as a kid that Christian Bale would be the best Batman to grace the screen?” Not that it was Batman’s movie. This one belonged to the Joker. Period.

Steve,
Glad you enjoyed it. Even through I saw it on the opening weekend, I am still chewing on all of the literary schtuff in that movie. I was also impressed with the exploration and exposition of the human condition.
It was not just another superhero movie.
Ah, Newsies.
That wasn’t his first big role, though. That would be “Empire of the Sun.”
Right. But I saw Newsies first. Empire of the Sun wasn’t really a kids’ movie.
Someday, I’ll write that article on the greatness of Newsies. I’m still amused at the fact that the director, Kenny Ortega, also directed the High School Musical movies/marketing juggernauts. And, yet, his newfound success has not resulted in the Newsies revival that I hoped for…
haha good, ignore my previous comment then. I guess I should read these backwards instead of in order? This is what happens when I forget to keep up with you.
Wasn’t it brilliant? I want to see it again. Fantastic movie. I’m not gonna lie I was pretty thrilled when whats her face died though….I hated both actresses that played her.
PS. Newsies is still one of my all time favorite movies.
Ever.
