Music for Writing

I’ve had an iTunes credit on my account since Christmas, thanks to a giftcard I got as part of our office Secret Santa program. (Program - like it’s Christmas welfare. But I digress.) Anyhoo, despite my willful immersion in the delicious decadence of mainstream culture, I’ve not been able to find anything I really wanted to spend it on.

Then, over the weekend, I somehow stumbled on Bach: The Cello Suites, performed by Yo-Yo Ma. To misquote my friend Brian Saint-Paul, You need this album. “I mean need, like you need air and food and water and the tender touch of a woman. It will totally change how you listen to music.”

Here’s the first track from the album:

  1. You have chosen…wisely.

I’d also strongly recommend Rubenstein’s classic recording of Chopin’s Nocturnes.
