Because I Hate To See A Good Trad Debate Die

My response to Mark Shea’s critique of angry trads is up at Inside Catholic. Let’s see if we can get more than 300 comments on this one… ;)

  1. You sound like a dhimmi over there Steve.

“Oh, great Shea, you’re so right. We have been so awful and naughty in the past…”

  2. Yeah, that’s exactly what I said.

    Grow up.

  3. … but we’re much better now… really. Honest.

  4. Sorry. Please grow up.

    Better?

  5. I liked your article.
One would hope that something like yours instead of Shea’s is there, but that is not likely.  Shea is still justified in his anger and contempt.
    Well done Steve.

  6. Quick, someone give Hilary a little warm puppy.

  7. Heh.

    Much better.

Hug me hug me, I am a mad trad who was traumatised in my yoot by a clown Mass. All I need is a nice warm hug.

  8. I liked it too, truth to tell, but you should have told Shea to watch his manners.

  9. Hilary,

I did that in the original comment thread on his piece, and in his combox, and by personal e-mail. I wanted, to the extent it was possible, to steer things away from being combative and toward a fruitful discussion. I am so tired of wasting all my time fending off attacks on “rad trads” and never, never getting to the substance of the thing. I hope this is an entree into more of that, and less of, “Well, you guys are angry and mean so I’m not listening. Nananananana! Not LIST-EN-IIIING!!”

Oh, and you need to stop using “dhimmi” so much. I know it’s a fun word, but you can’t use it for everything.

  10. I can use it for this:

“Oh please Great Shea, forgive us for being foolish Trads…we just can’t help our selves. I’m sure if we had the benefit of your great knowledge, we’d be as pleased as you are with the clappy Mass.”

  11. works great for that.

But don’t tell Shea. Might give him ideas.

  12. Great article Steve.  Since I moved away I’ve been more and more interested in attending the traditional mass on a regular basis, mostly because the mass in this diocese really leaves me wanting.  Your articles are really good about explaining the WHY of traditionalism though, and I like it. :)

  13. Thanks, Lish - Glad to hear it!

(For those of you who don’t know, Alicia is my baby sister. Ok, she’s 19, but still.)

  14. Lol, yeah me and my randomly active comments on your site.

There’s a priest down here who’s apparently about to start saying the old rite, and he reminds me a lot of Fr. Rosetti.  Its like 45 minutes away, but I’ll probably start going there, its Kendall’s gramma’s parish so maybe I’ll get her to go with me! :)
