Jeff Culbreath, who shares many of my beliefs and no few of my goals for family, has been my opponent on our series of culture discussions. In a recent post I’ve just had time to read through today, he nails something down that is fundamentally important, and which I think is perhaps the strongest argument [...]

Last night, in the midst of an IM conversation with The American Conservative’s associate editor, Michael Brendan Dougherty, I interjected that I had to go. Metro was running with major delays again (have they been on time yet this month?) and I was coming dangerously close to missing my connection with the older-fashioned trains of [...]

Brad Thor is a travel show host who has also become a best-selling novelist. I am about halfway through his book, The Lions of Lucerne, and I’m enjoying it quite a bit.
When I watched this video, I have to admit to more than a little jealousy. Travelling and writing are my things, and this guy [...]

My latest column for Inside Catholic went up last night. It’s entitled “The Rubrics of Coffee“, and appeared in a slightly different form on a prior version of this blog.

Just wanted to put up a quick post to announce something I’m rather pleased with - I’ve been invited to undertake the role of blogger/columnist/plucky comic relief for the website formerly known as Crisis Magazine, A,K.A., Inside Catholic.
It’s a great opportunity, and I’m happy to have it.

While I’m waiting for the huge payday from my Inside Catholic piece to come in, I thought I’d put in a little plug for myself. I’ve had a taste of the good life - the writer’s life - and it’s crack, baby. Stone cold, rock cocaine.
I used to write for work quite a lot more [...]
